On their honeymoon in Greece, founders Cindy and Sean Haynie, were awed by the site of Cleopatra's ancient mosaics. This inspiration later became Appomattox Tile Art, a place of their own to create lasting impressions of artwork to stand the test of time.

In 1999, with Cindy's sister Nikki Benninghoff, they made the great plunge into the business world and opened the first facility. Our new logo icon was one of the first mosaic designs we created. It has been in our collection from day one. Since then, the business of making custom, hand-made mosaics has been growing and evolving.

Currently, we occupy a 45,000 sq. ft. Beaux-Arts building in old town Petersburg, Virginia. Formerly a Model-A Ford factory and showroom, this historic location provides an excellent space to inspire timeless creations. Our staff of 45 plus artisans make marvelous mosaics and more.

The process begins with a sketch or a selection from one of our collections. We create a digital image that is used as a pattern during production. The mosaic is created by hand using a variety of tools and laid to match the pattern. It is then taped over to hold each piece in place. Once the entire project is completed, we puzzle cut and package it for shipping. A map is included for easy installation at your site.
